Dolphens Design and Sign has been producing the highest quality monument signs for over 30 years. We combine our background in the construction industry with our graphic design talents to create a value-added sign solution for your business. Our signs can also be accompanied with a lighting package to accommodate your specific needs.

A monument sign can vary in size and shape. We use a variety of materials, textures, colors and design techniques in the production of our signs. We strive to create a memorable icon that serves the purpose of both identifying your business and offering you a unique extension of your company’s outward brand and image.

Monument signs can be constructed using one of the following techniques or a mix:

  • Wood and Concrete
  • High Density Urethane (Foam also abbreviated “HDU”)
  • Sandblasted
  • Carved
  • Dimensional

Wood and Concrete Construction

This type of sign is constructed on-site. We use a combination of treated lumber, concrete board, mesh and other various materials to construct our most permanent sign structure. A monument sign of this construction is often not able to be relocated.

Foam Construction

When you think of foam, a sign is not the first application that comes to mind. Think of styrofoam on steroids. Our High Density Urethane (HDU) monuments consist of a solid, precision shaped, polystyrene core and sealed for durability. The sign is then finished with a 100% acrylic textured finish. The result is a long lasting, extremely durable, cost-effective, and versatile alternative to stone or concrete structures. Dolphens Design and Sign use their expertise in carving and construction to create unique eye-catching sign.

Sandblasted

Sandblasting is a traditional art-form of the sign maker. We create custom dimensional sandblasted signs by removing a portion of the sign surface using a high pressure air and sand mixture. Traditionally these signs are made of wood, mostly redwood or cedar. Today, using a greener and more cost effective approach, we use primarily HDU. HDU can be shaped easily. We can produce a variety of finishes ranging from concrete to wood grain and many more. Another advantage of sandblasting is a technique called “stage” blasting, garnering it’s name from the method of removing the sign surface in stages. This technique is used to create a dramatic detailed dimensional effect.

Carved

Carving is the oldest of all dimensional sign making techniques and takes a high level of artistic skill and patience to produce. Wood and HDU are the most commonly used materials when carving a sign. Adding a carved piece to your sign can make the sign come alive with eye-popping dimension. At Dolphens Design and Sign we pride ourselves on creating creative carved sign solutions for our clients. We like to let our work speak for itself.

Monument signs can be constructed using one or more of the following techniques:

  • 18’ Totem Pole
  • 6’ tall Fire Fighter
  • Life sized dogs and cats
  • & many more

Dimensional Letters

The non-illuminated lettering and graphics created at Dolphens Design and Sign have been the backbone niche of our business. We use a variety of materials when creating our popular dimensional signs. Each material has it’s own advantage and is chosen specific to the client’s requests and requirements. The materials used in production of these signs is as vast as the installation methods we use. This sign option is maintenance free and is less expensive than the illuminated option, however a lighting package can be added for night-time visibility. Dimensional lettering signs can be lit by using a technique called “wash lighting” with flood or tulip lights.
